My Story

Welcome to Boreal Forest Fire

This was created out of a love of art and a journey of discovery. It is a combination of things I love into a single artform that has brought me great joy! I’ve learned so much since I started, thank you for being here!

Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Romans 12:1-2 KJV

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Hello! I’m Jodi Bosak, artist of Boreal Forest Fire. I’m a mother of four living in Bird Creek, AK. I’ve lived in Alaska my whole life growing up in North Pole. I have been an artist my whole life, always pursuing creative interests. I started making mandalas in elementary school before I knew what they were. Kids used to ask me to make them one and I excelled in art assignments. I became known as “the artist”. I eventually decided I would pursue a degree in graphic art.

Despite a desire to become a professional artist, I became a nurse and followed my passion to care for birthing mothers and newborns instead of seeking a degree in art. This seemed like the safest option. With small children at home recently, I quit my labor and delivery full time nurse job. In the process of being a stay at home mom I found small amounts of time while my children slept to grow my woodworking skills. We live in a part of the boreal forest and bought a sawmill giving us the ability to work with large logs and process them down into timber. There became a lot of “scrap” pieces that I realized had much artistic potential. Thus, my passion from woodburning art was born out of a desire to return to my creative roots and use the abundance of wood slabs we were producing. Woodburning has become something I absolutely love. I was able to return to my real creative passion while being home with my children. With a love of all things nature, my art is almost exclusively Alaskan nature and boreal forest themed. Many pieces are functional art such as spoons and charcuterie boards.

Many of my wood products are locally sourced. Logs are obtained from utility clearing of trees as well as some tree removal on my property. I mill full size logs into slabs and process them through various steps into useful pieces which usually takes about a year before they’re ready for wood burning. I feel it is most rewarding when my wood is FULLY processed by me. Unfortunately, not all my products are local or processed by me, for now.

For me this has been a story of achieving goals once abandoned. Childlike hopes made into reality. Additionally, I’ve suffered some tough things in my life and art has been a positive way to process things, meditative in nature. Much joy has come from being able to be creative.

Most of all, thank you for being here! My story wouldn’t be realized to this level without the interest from others in my art. I appreciate you so much! I hope the love, joy and imagination put into each piece is felt by each new owner.
